Selective Electroless Plating with nickel plating over copper plating is a popular choice with our customers to address EMI RFI Shielding and ESD dissipation due to the ability to plate on specified surfaces only, usually the inside of plastic enclosure.  With this approach the original molded-in color and texture is retained and excellent EMI RFI shielding is attained.

Selective plating utilizes a special autocatalytic primer, which is applied to the areas where plating is required. The chemical make-up of the primer allows copper metal to be drawn out of the plating solution and deposit uniformly onto the primer. A subsequent step of over-plating nickel protects the highly conductive copper from corrosion and enhances scratch and wear resistance. Throughout the plating process the parts are never exposed to aggressive chemistries; therefore, the molded-in-cosmetics of the plastic are not affected. All-Over Electroless Plating with nickel plating over copper plating is a highly cost effective and superior EMI RFI shielding system for plastic components with EMI RFI shielding effectiveness over 100 dB over a broad frequency range. Cybershield has large scale, automated plating equipment to provide customers with the lowest cost solution. The all-over plating process eliminates the autocatalytic base coat and plates directly onto the plastic components.
